DONG DONG NEVER DIE is a bizarre and underrated gem of a game. It was developed by a few individuals, including Wang Dong (王东) and Jiangxi Dinosaur (江西恐龙), back in the late 2000s. Honestly, this game is a true work of art due to its homemade "so bad it's good" style.
The characters in DONG DONG NEVER DIE are a fever dream. There's a fat construction worker with a hammer who's also called "Kenshiro," despite bearing no resemblance to Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken. Then there's a stickman character, and... Mario. For some reason, Mario plays similarly to Akuma. It's clear that there was no script or planning involved in this game's development; it's just a bunch of people throwing in whatever they wanted for the sake of it. Yet, somehow... it works.
The art style is reminiscent of Mortal Kombat, with its digitized sprites. The gameplay is a mix of King of Fighters and Street Fighter Alpha 2, with fast-paced action and cheap moves. Vinesauce Joel played it once in 2014, which may have introduced the game to Western audiences.
The game was developed with Chinese players in mind, but unfortunately, there has never been an official English translation patch in over 13 years. So, I took it upon myself to translate the plot and text into English. As for voice acting, I initially considered re-dubbing it from scratch, but I didn't want to ruin this cult classic with a poorly done re-dub, reminiscent of 4Kids' style.
